Healthy Breasts 3: Massage

Breast massage has been practiced for thousands of years and is an important aspect of self-care, wellness, and healing.

Your chest and neck area has a large grouping of lymph nodes; so massaging it activates lymphatic flow, boosting the immune system. Self-massage stimulates circulation, keeping tissues healthy. Gentle massage also helps to reduce hormonal breast tenderness, minimize soreness and swelling, and prevents sagging.

  • Start by cupping one hand on the top of your opposite breast.

  • Squeeze the area gently in a rhythmic pumping motion.

  • Move your hand down the top of your breast gradually.

  • Work your hand around the outside, under, and inner part of your breast using the same pumping motion.

  • Alternate between squeezing and pumping with gentle fingertip circles.
