6 Homeopathic Constitutions

Constitutions

A homeopathic materia medica (encyclopedia) describes each medicine’s mentals, generals and specifics. Gelsemium patients for example, tend to be timid, quiet and reserved (mentals). They are inclined to feel weak and fatigued (generals). They may have headaches beginning in the neck and radiating to the forehead (specifics).

What strikes you when you read the materia medica is that each homeopathic remedy has a distinct character or personality. When you match the personality of the homeopathic medicine to the personality of the patient it’s called a constitutional remedy.

Constitutional medicines describe the overall condition of a person in a state of disease. Rudi Verspoor and Patty Smith discovered that there were six constitutional medicines that describe a state of health. Through extensive clinical research, and from the thousands of patients who visited heilkünst clinics Rudi and Patti found that there are six in particular that appeared over and over again in people that were all mentally, emotionally and physically healthy. They termed these six remedies genotypes.

Your genotypical remedy is used to strengthen your life force, keep you in homeostasis and help you build up a resistance to diseases. In some cases it is the only medicine needed to treat your disease but usually one or two others are necessary to completely eradicate your illness.

Sulphur lives directly in the here and now, which usually makes them very charming, or occasionally annoying to those around. Sulphur is full of life, and are usually always in motion. Since they live life in the moment, they live in their own sense of time rather than clock or schedule time. They tend to be very untidy and are often poorly dressed.

The key to Pulsatilla is love. They are extremely sweet, affectionate and nurturing. Pulsatillas are flexible but lack decisiveness. They are highly impressionable, and easily influenced. Pulsatillas represent the emotional mind, as apposed to Lycopodium’s intellectual mind. The emotional mind works through multiple connections and associations. They are warm, both in personality and body temperature.

Calcareas are down-to-earth, affable and practical. They tend to be very community-minded, being comforted by tradition and history. They generally take a very plodding, systematic approach to everything they do, and can become extremely stubborn if someone attempts to change their rhythm. They are very systematic thinkers and tend to overwork. Security is very important for a Calcarea.

Lycopodiums are very intellectual and rational but may have trouble making true emotional connections. They like other people around, but not too close or in the same room. They are good at climbing to the top of a social or workplace hierarchy. They tend to feeling inferior; so they either have small or very big egos. They are always trying to prove themselves.

Siliceas are introverted, quite, cautious, refined and usually possess strong ethical sensibilities. Siliceas generally hold very strong opinions; yet rarely impose them on others, unless the situation absolutely demands it. They are very easy-going until someone pushes them too far.

A match quickly bursting into flame and quickly burning out symbolizes Phosphorous. Quick to excitement and enthusiasm Phosphorous can be very magnetic in social situations, but they can have the challenge of easily burning themselves out. Phosphorous types have a very thin skin and are highly sensitive to their environment, whether of the emotions of the people around them.
